Photoville exhibit at Brooklyn Bridge Park
Michele and I headed to Brooklyn Bridge Park to check out the Photoville exhibit on the very last day (because we are slackers). Brooklyn Bridge Park in itself has many events and attractions to check out. There are playgrounds, soccer fields, and a pop up pool. There is also an ice cream place and on Sundays Smorgasburg sets up shop on Pier 5 in the park. Along with it's attractions, there is a stunning view of the Manhattan Skyline.
If you haven't been out to the park yet I highly recommend it. There is a ferry from Pier 11 near the South Street Seaport, or if you are feeling really adventurous you can ride a bike across the Manhattan Bridge.
I apologize for the late post as the Photoville exhibit started on September 18th and ran through September 28th. I am very happy we caught this exhibit as it was inspiring for us to see great work there from various photographers. Photoville consisted of over 50 shipping containers that each housed an exhibit. Accompanying the exhibits were workshops and talks as well as a beer garden with food complements of Smorgasburg.
A few of the intriguing exhibits we happened upon were Iraqi Detainees, La Frontera, Tunnel People, War and Memory, and Old Drivers. Some of the topics were heavy but the work was very moving. I think my favorite exhibit was La Frontera in which the photographer told the stories of artists who live and create in cities along the US/ Mexican border. Photoville was an interesting take on photography and the fact that art can be exhibited anywhere, hopefully it returns next year.
