The behind the scenes tour at Yankee Stadium.

Coming from a family of die hard NY Yankee fans and growing up in the Bronx meant that my fate was sealed.  I would be a Yankee fan and that was that.

As I grew up the old stadium became a magical place.  My dad would take me and my brother to a bunch games each summer.  We had some amazing experiences at the old stadium.  We watched Don Mattingly (our hero) play, saw Jim Abbott pitch a no hitter, and one day the pitching coach threw my brother a ball.  A real Major League baseball.  That was the best day of all.

Through the years we have attended tons of games.  The final season for the old stadium was 2009.  The new stadium was built and opened in 2010.

Fast forward to 2014.  We had been to many games but none of us had ever toured the new stadium.  I had no idea this was a thing until I stumbled upon it.  You can opt for a "behind the scenes" tour on a game day or not as well as a VIP tour or a standard one.  On our tour we visited the museum, memorial park, the delta box, and my favorite the Press box.

It was amazing we basically had the place to ourselves.  It wasn't a game day so the stadium was empty.  I can not describe to you what an empty stadium feels like.  I guess the opposite of a packed one.  But it felt like we really were behind the scenes.  We were able to take a ton of photos from angles of the stadium we had never seen before.

It was definitely a cool New York thing to do. Most importantly my dad and all of us had a ball.
