I composted…and survived.
Vacation and relax, not often two words that go together in our lives. Vacations are precious periods of time to fit in as much as possible, see everything, do everything, try crazy things, and explore. I love to explore and am lucky that Evelyn does as well, and seems to (usually) have no problems blindly following me as I lead us down many a road less traveled. This vacation in Peaks Island, Maine, has been a very different and very much needed break. It has truly been relaxing; moving between the deck overlooking the ocean, to the window seat, or perhaps the couch, still overlooking the ocean, and when the sun is shining, out to the loungers by the pool. Sounds rough, doesn’t it. I was worried before we got here, that maybe a full week of nothingness would be more than I could handle. Could I truly relax and not want to get out and do everything?
It turns out, vacation on a small island is the perfect prescription for us, it almost mandates relaxation. There has been activity, sure, but it is sandwiched between amazing, long periods of staring at the water, watching the clouds, spying on the lobstermen, and being mesmerized by the formations of the ducks. There has been time for talking, daydreaming, lots of games, multiple books, some arts and crafts, and today Evelyn even made a trip out to the compost bucket. These are not things that usually fit into a road trip (affiliate) across Texas or adventures in Seoul, but it has been nice. If only we had more vacation days to fit it all in every year. There are many more cities, states, and countries to visit, but apparently this doing nothing type of vacation needs to get scheduled in there too.
